Piers runs International Theatre and Music Limited and its associated companies, from offices in London’s Covent Garden. The artiste management division of IT&M has been representing musical theatre artistes since the mid eighties. To date the company's actors have appeared in many major West End and No.1 touring musical shows in the UK and across the world, including Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake, Les Miserables, Phantom of The Opera, Chicago, My Fair Lady, The Lion King, Cats, Fame, Grease, Buddy, Starlight Express, Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Miss Saigon, Jesus Christ Superstar, Blood Brothers and many many more.
Piers started his career teaching English, Drama and Music during which time he wrote several musical adaptations of classical English stories, including an adaptation of JM Barrie’s Peter Pan. In the mid 1990’s, following approval by the trustees of Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, to whom Barrie had left the Peter Pan rights, Piers’ adaptation was further developed into Peter Pan The Official British Musical. Piers now holds an international and worldwide contract with Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital securing international professional and amateur stage rights of his adaptation including associated merchandising. The London and New York Theatre publishers, Samuel French Ltd, first published Piers’ musical of Peter Pan the British Musical in the UK in 1985. It is now in its third edition and fourth reprint and has sold thousands of copies in most English speaking countries.
In the past 20 years Peter Pan The British Musical has been produced professionally throughout Europe including London's West End, Ireland, The Channel Islands, Scandinavia (breaking a box office record with its first visit, then again with its second), UK & Netherlands tours. Many of these professional productions have been directed by Piers. In addition there have been three major recordings of the work – distributed by EMI, Decca/Columbia and Pigmalion Records. Piers has also advised on Peter Pan productions in Canada, Spain and Jersey.
Either in his capacity as author, lyricist, composer or director Piers’ work has broken box office records in at least 10 theatres in the UK and Europe. His adaptations have been seen in every English speaking country worldwide and translated into many languages. Piers has also received 2 major awards, one in the Channel Islands and the 'MAX' award in Spain.
Piers has also written musical adaptations of Kenneth Grahame’s Wind in the Willows – ‘The Adventures of Mr. Toad' (published by Josef Weinberger Ltd in the UK and Music Theatre International in the USA) which has been staged in London, toured the UK and broken 5 Christmas box office records in regional theatres; ‘Through the Looking Glass’, based on Lewis Carroll’s sequel to Alice In Wonderland, which was first presented by The Theatre Royal, Plymouth, and will be re-written by Piers with Chris Blackwood later in 2010 and a new musical version of a modern-day ‘Cinderella’ is currently in development for 2011. ‘A Christmas Carol’ is also co-written by Piers as composer, with Chris Blackwood who provided the book and lyrics.
In addition to professional presentations, Piers’ works are a favourite with schools, amateur theatre societies and theatre companies and a large number of productions are also performed annually by these forces all over the world.
